  Digital Cable Box Hook Up

HD Digital cable box with HDMI output to HDTV. Using an HDMI cable connection from cable box to HDTV ensures an all digital hook up. HDMI carries both video and audio all in one cable. HDMI can carry 480, 720 and 1080 video resolution and up to 8 channels of audio. So HDMI can be used for High Definition TV shows.

Most HDTVs have two, three or even four HDMI inputs so you can hook up another device which outputs HDMI such as a DVD recorder.

Analog, digital channels

Cable TV had both analog and digital channels for about ten years before moving to all digital channels. This meant that you could view analog channels without a converter/decoder receiver. Cable television operated with a hybrid of analog and digital channels primarily from the late 1990s through the late 2000s, with many systems fully eliminating analog by the 2009–2012 period.
