Connect TV, Digital TV Converter Box,
DVD/VCR Combo unit and RF Modulator


This connection involves a Digital to Analog TV box, Analog TV, DVD/VCR Combo unit and RF Modulator.

RF Modulators are available at retail stores or online and cost around $20.

Components:

o Over-the-air TV broadcasts
o Analog TV with only VHF/UHF input jack.
o CECB Digital to Analog Converter box
o DVD/VCR Combo unit
o RF Modulator
o Audio/Video RCA cables (1-yellow, 1-red & 1-white audio).
o RF coaxial cables (RG-6).

DVD/VCR Combo

VCR/DVD Combo units come in various configurations depending on the model and year.

1. VCR (play and record) and DVD player only

3. No TV tuner or analog NTSC TV tuner
4. Digital ATSC TV tuner
5. No HDMI output or HDMI output

The HDMI (if available) and Component video outputs on a VCR/DVD combo unit are typically only for the DVD. The composite (yellow) video output and white and red audio can be used for the VCR or the DVD.



The top label "DVD" shows the outputs for DVD only - Component video/audio, S-video, and digital audio out. Next the "DVD/VCR" label shows the 3 RCA outputs that can be used by the DVD or the VCR. Next the "VCR" label shows the 3 RCA inputs used by only the VCR for recording. This unit does not have a DVD recorder, only a player.

This unit has a VCR (play/record) and a DVD recorder and player.

Press INPUT SELECT button for Line 1 (rear) or Line 2 (front) RCA inputs. This selects which connected external device to record from. Press the VCR (VIDEO button for SONY models) or the DVD button to select if you will record to the VCR or the DVD recorder. The "AV IN 1" RCA inputs on the rear allows either VCR or DVD recording. The "AV OUT" RCA outputs allow playback from VCR or DVD but the DVD playback also can use the "Component Out" RCA ports for better video quality.

Hook up DIAGRAM - Analog TV, Digital TV Converter box, DVD/VCR Combo, RF Modulator



Set TV on channel 3 or 4. Select TV channels on DTV converter box.



Cables Connections and explanation:

A TV antenna UHF/VHF is used to receive TV signals.

1. Connect a coaxial RF cable from antenna to DTV converter box RF input. This is for watching TV.

2. Connect a coaxial RF cable from DTV box to RF Modulator RF input.

3. Connect a coaxial RF cable from RF Modulator RF output jack to the TV's RF VHF/UHF input jack. Set TV to channel 3 or 4.

4. Connect RCA video and audio cables from DTV box RCA outputs to Combo VCR/DVD RCA input jacks. This is for recording.

5. Connect RCA video and audio cables from Combo unit's RCA outputs to RF Modulator's RCA inputs. This is for playback.

What settings do you need for this configuration?

The TV, DVD/VHS recorder will need to be set to the proper input depending on your source. The input sources can be selected usually by using the remote control buttons for the respective devices. Buttons such as LINE or VIDEO or AUX or INPUT SELECT or an actual channel such as 93 or 00 or 99 depending on your brand. Consult owner's manual here.


TV Channels are selected on the DTV converter box using the remote control for the box.
