The Apple iPhone was first released in the USA in June 2007 for $600 (8GB model) and $500 (4GB model). AT&T was chosen as the cell network carrier. By the next summer, the iPhone 3G was released and in the summer of 2009, the iPhone 3GS was released. The fourth generation of the iPhone, iPhone 4, was released in June 2010. In 2012 Apple released the iPhone 5.

iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus for 2014-2015

Cost
The iPhone 6 costs full retail $649 for the 16GB model. There are also the 64GB and 128GB models. Verizon and AT&T offer the iPhone 6 for $199 with a 2-year contract (64GB is $299, 128GB model is $399). With a new 2 year contract, you can buy the iPhone 6 for $129 at Wal-Mart on special, normally $179. You can also buy the iPhone 6 directly from Apple Store on contract or off contract. So the cost varies widely depending on where you buy, what model, and how you buy.

The iPhone 6 comes with the iOS 8 operating system, so you get all the latest software and features including Apple Pay.

Carriers -
AT&T, Verizon, Sprint and T-Mobile.

Speed -
new processor, the A8 (64-bit) is faster than the previous A7 CPU.

Also faster network with the newer (2013) 802.11ac Wi-Fi. Three times faster than 802.11n (in theory)
802.11a (1999), 802.11b (2000), 802.11g (2003) and 802.11n (2007)
Backwards compatible but must have 802.11ac on each device for faster speeds.

Battery -
iPhone 6 has 18% better battery life than the iPhone 5S.

Memory -
more storage capacity than iPhone 5S with the 128GB model. More photos, videos, apps, music.

Camera -
faster autofocus and 1080p resolution. Burst Selfies.

Screen -
4.7 in. iPhone 6 and 5.5 in iPhone 6 Plus bigger than ever. Higher resolution displays 326 ppi (pixels per inch) and 401 ppi iPhone 6 Plus, full 1080p resolution, increased contrast ratios giving better screen colors.

Apple Pay -
Near field communication (NFC) is a technology that enables smartphones to establish radio communication by bringing them into proximity, typically a distance of 3.9 in or less, with each other or other compatible devices. Password protected payments with your fingerprint. Your credit card number is not shared with merchant (no swipe). Transaction specific security code makes buying more secure and private. Merchant must be on board with Apple Pay.

Physical -
6.9mm (iPhone 6) and 7.1mm (iPhone 6 Plus) thickness, making them the thinnest iPhones ever.

Question: What colors can I get for the iPhone 6?
As with the iPhone 5s, you’ll be able to get both iPhone 6 models in Space Gray (dark gray with a black screen bezel), silver (with a white screen bezel), or gold (also with a white screen bezel).

Question: What is the data speed for the iPhone 6?
The new phones’ implementation of LTE for cellular data is faster, as well, with speeds of up to 150mbps, compared to 100mbps in the iPhone 5s; and the new models support 20 LTE bands (compared to 13 previously), which Apple says is more than in any other smartphone.

Question: What kind of camera for the new iPhone 6?
The iSight (rear) camera is 8 megapixels, with a True Tone flash, 1.5-micron pixels, and an f/2.2 aperture, but Apple says it uses a new sensor that takes better photos.

Question: Do both iPhone 6 and 6 Plus have touch ID?
Yes, Touch ID is present on both iPhone 6 models. It functions identically to the way it does on the iPhone 5s, although thanks to iOS 8, both phones, along with the iPhone 5s, gain Apple Pay functionality.
